BCAA Supplement Timing?? - 03-18-2008

I have been trying to do research on when to take a BCAA supplement. My protein, and most protein drinks have them in it, but my question is about taking them alone. Any suggestions on timing?

The best time to take the BCAA is 30/45 minutes before a workout. However, you can also take it immediately after you do a workout. For the best results, use it during both of those time frames. Timing is the key....

I have Superior AMINO 2222 tabs from ON - I got like 325 tablets for like 30 bucks - I eat them all day long, usually with every meal. freggin horse pills but its worth it. IF they costs more I not over due them - I dont think you can take too many BCAA's.

I pulled my intake information straight off the Optimum Nutrition BCAA label. I figure if they made it, they know more about it then me....

Now, I'm not saying taking it any other way is wrong, but there may be a point in there where it just becomes wasted. The body can only process so much at any givien time...

my lable says to take 1 tab before meals and again before and after traininging

tabs are released slower I belive than the power/liquid way of taking it.

It depends on what your trying to use it for.... If your trying to use them for bulking purposes then forget it, you're in a caloric surplus the key with BCAA is to help keep blood concentrations of those key amino's high to prevent your body from turning to your muscle to sedate its need for them. When bulking you body wont turn on your muscles for energy as it will have more then enough coming in in the form of food.

When your using for the purpose of a cut you would want to take them during training and cardio. Preferably you would want a ratio of the BCAAs to be 2:1:1 of Leucine:Isoleucine: Valine(most have this ratio anyway). 10g of this mixture along with 5g of Glutamine will help prevent muscle loss while dieting as your body will already have a nice high blood concentration of aminos to feed off, sparing your muscle mass.
