How can I beat flabby upper arms? -
06-09-2007
Q: Like many women, I have problems with my flabby triceps muscles. What is a good way to make them as toned as my biceps? - M.B., Boulder, CO
A: I happen to like bench dips. They're easy to do and can be done virtually anywhere. To top it off, you get a great shoulder workout from them as well. To do a bench dip, stand with your back to a sturdy bench that's positioned lengthwise. Place your hands on the front edge of the bench with your elbows pointed back and tucked into your sides. Now bend your knees, and move your feet in front of you so most of your bodyweight rests directly on your arms. Keeping your elbows against your sides, bend until your upper arms are nearly parallel to the floor (or go down as far as you comfortably can.) Keep your hips stable, so they drop in a straight line toward the floor as you bend you lower your body. To finish, return to the starting position by straightening your arms. Don't involve the legs; let the strength of your triceps and shoulders lift you back up.
