I have don't split for a while but only working the shit out of my legs one day a week. Since they are the largest muscle they need more time to recover. However, I just started doing the Whole body approach 3 times one week and 2 the other. I do about to sets per exercise and no mor than 2 execercises per body part. I start from the floor up and out. Try to stck with free weights most of the time but since I use a very strict movement, 3 seconds positive then hold and 3 seconds negative, some times I use a machine. Need to up my cardio though. But when I do cardio I use the HIIT principle and only do it for 20 minutes...Oh, I do ABS at the begining and use it as a warm up.
