How fast can I lift? -
06-09-2007
Q: Sometimes when I'm pressed for time, I will perform my reps fast so I can get through my workout and out of the gym. How fast can I do my reps and still get maximum benefits from the workout? - W.T., Wilton, CT
A: I am not a proponent of speedy workouts. If you have limited time to work out, don't go fast but instead cut back on the number of reps and sets you perform, and focus your attention fully on your form for each repetition. When lifting or pushing up a weight, take two seconds, with another two seconds spent returning the weights to the starting position.
