Question Are supersets worth exploring? - 06-09-2007

Q: Once a week, as I'm finishing up my workouts, these real big guys come in and start their workouts. I'm amazed not only at the weights that they lift but they don't seem to be taking a break between exercises. Is this something I should try? - L.K., Bellevue, NE

A: What you're witnessing is something we call supersets. A superset involves doing one exercise right after the other, with little or no rest until the second set is completed. These are usually done with opposing muscle groups, such as the biceps and triceps, or chest and back.

To perform supersets without injury, you need to be in good shape and work them into your routine slowly. But since they can reduce workout time, or allow you to pack more exercises into a given training session, you may want to give them a try. To do a superset, perform the bench press and follow it up immediately with a rowing exercise that uses weights. Rest one to two minutes. Then repeat the remaining sets (and rests) in the same pattern.

Brother i love them Supersets, my partner and I even do Giant sets(3 in a row instead of 2)but like Trainwiser said ya have to be in shape for em, they give us a great pump and total muscle exhaustion, which is a great feeling and beneficial in my opinion, however we do not do them all the time, every so often is just right.......fla2tn

if you want to try - 11-17-2007

one of the best super sets you can do with out hurting your self it do wide are pull up then go and pick up some 40lbs dumbells or what ever you curl and start do curls to failure.
