How long 'til I'm strong? -
06-09-2007
Q: It's not that I don't want to do the workouts every week, but I am impatient. How long do you think it will it take me to get stronger if I begin a strength-training program? - B.S., Boston, MA
A: There's no question that working with weights will help you to gain strength. However, results will not be apparent immediately. The key to resistance training is to use the equipment correctly and to allow time for the process. You will notice differences in as little as four to six weeks if you progressively begin to increase the weights you're using by small amounts. You'll begin to feel stronger, and you'll notice that your muscles are taut and more defined. Chances are you'll also notice a secondary effect: as different body parts become less flabby and more muscular, your clothing will feel looser.
