PSB enhances annual grant of bodybuilding federation

Staff Report

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has enhanced the annual grant of the Pakistan Bodybuilding Federation (PBF) from Rs 400,000 to 900,000 despite the federation’s below par performance in the international competitions. It is pertinent to mention that PSB director general Salahuddin Khan is a close friend of PBF president Mohammad Yahya, who is also the associate secretary of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA). Yayha, considered as a right hand man of POA president Syed Arif Hasan, is also serving as the director operations in the Pakistan Sports Trust (PST). Arif Hasan is the chairman of the PST.

The PSB has also enhanced the annual grant of six other sports federations and approved a special grant of Rs 17.250 million for the 32 affiliated sports bodies to support them in holding national competitions during the fiscal year 2007-08.

A spokesman for the PSB told Daily Times here Monday the PSB would distribute Rs 31.650 million among the 35 affiliated units for the year 2007-08. “The PSB has increased the annual grant of Pakistan Karate Federation (PKF) from Rs 800,000 to 100,000, Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF) from Rs 750,000 to 100,000, Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) from Rs 750,000 to 1000,000, Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) from Rs 500,000 to 900,000, Alpine Club of Pakistan from Rs 150,000 to 200,000 and Pakistan Teakwondo Federation (PTF) from Rs 600,000 to Rs 1000,000,” he added.
