Shake - Before, After, During?? - 03-07-2008

Title is pretty self-explanatory really. My gym shake consists of about 30-40g protein, about 8g carbs and some L-glute. But shall it be taken just before workout, during or after?I know its the ultimate question that cannot ever really be answered but what is the general consensus that people keep to..??Im assuming just after??

At the mo im taking it as i workout on the basis that, my workout time is aprox. 1hr and a 1/2. Once started if i waited to the end of the workout to have it, i would already be 1 1/2 hrs into my protein intake (2hr) window for my first exercise I did. And combined with digestion time, i might miss the window altogether. So for this reason i do during.

Peoples thoughts/opinions please.

I make an all whey+carb drink and sip it through my workout...then I finish it off at the end. There is usually half of it left, and its about 100g carbs and 60g protien to start. I like this...tiny little sips is the key, stomach cramps suck ass. Theres my two cents

you can take it at all 3 times, 1hr before (high carb shake), during if you wish, but take a protein "drink" not the milky shake, I use to mix gatorade with my protien, and after, take a shake to fit your goals. This is best if you have long training sessions, eitherwise your protien intake should cover what you use at the gym.

is what i do is take about 40-50grams of protien and a apple one hour before i work out then i only drink water while working out. then after my work out i like to get any where form 80-100 grams of protien with about 40-50 grams of carbs to spike my blood sugar level and get the protien where it is needed. Just my way and thoughts.

thats what I do as well, but my carbs is abit higher, close to 75g
