Casein Protein before bed? Good or bad? - 12-20-2007

Is it a good idea to take Casein Protein, before going to bed? I know it takis it 2 times as long if not longer for body to brake it down and while sleeping u cant eat so in those 6-8 hrs of sleep ur body is getting a constant source of nutrients and such. Thats from my understanding and im very intrested in adding this to my bulking cycle. What do u guys think?

Yeahh casein is good before bed....I always make sure that it is a sustained release so like you said my body is being fed throughout the night. Sometimes when Im on cycle one of the times I would wake up to go to the bathroom I would mix a quick protein shake at about 2am

diff between whey and casein is that casein takes 2 times or so longer to digest which lasts u longer. thats y people take it at night before bed. u can still take whey before bed but many prefer casein cuz it lasts longer. i bought one called

"Gold standars 100% Casein protein"

here are the stats

-24g protein
-5g BCAA
-5g Glutamine

in every scoop and its good for 27 days wo0t.

so i get my glutamine and bcaa's at night as well.

Of all the protein powders out there, cassein is the best for before bed. I will say that an even better way of getting in 1 last burst of protein is by eating cottage cheese and 1 tablespoon natty peanut butter right before bed.

I personally think its a must wheter you are bulking or cutting. You need to protect your muscles, and to continue to have protein in your system throught the night. One product that I absolutely love is Infusion, I forget who makes it. It has Casien both Micellar and Cassienate, healthy fat to slow down absorbtion to, and fiber which slows absorption as well. So this is guaranteed to last 6-8 hours while you sleep.

Right now, I am on the ON Casien, as Infusion is quite expensive. I actually drink it with whole milk, to slow the absorbtion down even more with the fat from milk. I've been doing this with whole milk for a long time, and seems to work for me, without adding any inches to my midsection.

So, if you can add some healthy fat and fiber with your casein at night that would even be more beneficial.
