Give us an idea where you are right now buddy. Height & weight, roughly what you do in the gym (if anything). And be totally honest, no ones gunna laugh. Everyone starts somewhere eh
What Ironfuriur might mean is this; if you eat less calories than you 'need' to maintain your current weight, add some exercise, you will lose weight. Mostly fat.
Check this site out :- BMR Calculator (this is your calorific need to lie on the floor doing nuffink)
Find your result then multiply the number, here :- Harris Benedict Equation (the result will be your 'real' calorific requirement to maintain your lifestyle)

Once you know this number you should see that by losing a couple hundred calories every day you will slim down, a few pounds a week perhaps. Counting calories of different meals is a bloody pain in the arse, but write everything down and google it. You'll be chuffed you did.

An alternative is (and someones going to hate me for this, i bet) find out your BMI, like i said earlier, see the daily Cals you need to stay the same. BTW i'm assuming you are trying to lose weight, right? Now go buy some good quality ready-meals (lo-salt / sugar) and eat less that your BMI result (by say, 200 cals). Why? Because they are smaller portions, tend to be lo-fat, and best of all, the calorie counting has been done for you. Easy.
That is NOT great advice for bodybuilders or those in the gym everyday, but if your diet is out of control and you are not happy (and can't calorie count) this could be a short-term solution, something to get you going.
